Fresh Start

I'm so sorry for annoying everyone!

I plan on finding a different way to earn money. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Erica,

Form a clear plan including a budget. If you plan on Carnival,
pick a few specific voyages and price them out. There are a
number of 3 day cruises.

Present exactly what your vacation fund will pay for.
On one had sending your mother on a cruise sounds altruistic.
While it may seem reasonable for you and your sisters to go
along for company, make it clear in your presentation that
this is part of the plan you are hoping to fund.
Airfare....

Do you live close to a port where you can catch a round-trip
3 day cruise?
What is the cost to get to where the ship leaves port?
How about getting back?
Will you need to include a transfer fee from the airport to the ship.

Example of some expenses you could face...
Inner cabin 7 day
1st person 599.00 26.80 taxes
2nd person 599.00 26.80 taxes
3rd person 399.00 26.80 taxes
4th person 399.00 26.80 taxes

Gratuity.....
Allow for $10 per day per person. That's $70 for one
person on a 7 day cruise or $280 for 4 people.

Include travel insurance?

Do you need money for any activities or, say, soft drinks.

Is there a local non-profit or bank that
could set up a fund to insure the funds
are accounted for? Maybe approach a local
travel agent to help plan the vacation.
Sending money to a PO Box is not attractive.

Build a case for fund raising. Why should someone
give money? What can you tell about the family or
you mother that would help people understand why
she must go on this cruise? How will this cruise or
your success in this venture make a difference in your
lives? Will it interfere with you plans for college?

Is a cruise the only option. $1,000 can fund a great vacation
for 2 people and on a budget, maybe 4.

Timeline is very short. Fund raising campaign
are usually planned months in advance of the
actual solicitation.

You may raise some money toward the cruise and
then see you fall short of the funds to buy the vacation.
If you cannot purchase the cruise will you return the
money to the contributors or decide that you will
use it for something else? Based on your solicitation
I would say you must either buy the cruise for your
mother or return the funds. Anything else is fraud.
If you have other intentions, be sure to make disclose
the alternatives in your pitch.

By the way...be sure to include the cost of the PO Box
in the plan if you intend to use contributions to pay for it.

Generally the best fundraising campaign focus
on people you already know. As you can see
from post in this newsgroup, it is very difficult
to gain the confidence of people in an anonymous
setting.

Newsgroups are great for exploring ideas but are
likely not the best way to raise funds.

Good luck.

Erica,

I see by your latest posts that you can, indeed, spell correctly and write clearly. By now, you have learned that it had led to good advice and, perhaps a plan. Good luck in your endeavors.

If you can arrange your own transportation to Galveston,
then you have more money for the cruise. Royal Caribbean
and Carnival have 4 day cruises from there.

One round trip from Galveston ....
Carnival Ecstasy 4 day Round trip from Galveston
February 15, 2007 to Cozumel
379.00 1st person +16.80 misc. per person (+ ~40 gratuity)
379.00 2nd person +16.80 misc. per person (+ ~40 gratuity)
249.00 3rd person +16.80 misc. per person (+ ~40 gratuity)
249.00 4th person +16.80 misc. per person (+ ~40 gratuity)

$1,483.20 for 4 people in one cabin or $871.60 for 2.

That means....you may already have enough to send you mother
and one other. That would leave the fund raising for
the two younger sisters.

Maybe add soft drink stickers at about $5 per day. You should also add insurance.

A local travel agent may be able to help set much of this
up for you. When you think you have enough money and
a plan of attack, then surprise your mother with the plan. From there the whole family can get in on the execution of
the plan.

Don't forget passports. While not currently required to reenter the
US by sea they are strongly recommended. If, say, you missed
the boat back from Cozumel, you would want to be able
to come back to the US. At minimum make sure you have
birth certificates for everyone.

I've never been much on bake sales nor lemonade stands, for
that matter. If you come up short on funds, but have a clear
presentation of your need, there may be people you know
that will be willing to fill the gap. In any case, have a contingency
plan whether it's to send two people, or for everyone to go
somewhere nearby for vacation.
Good luck with your holiday plans.

Another point, the date of the cruise does not matter that much. If you present your gift but it is for s cruise months in the future it will still be gladly received.

And the further into the future you book a cruise the cheaper it will be, check the sites out if you don't believe me. In-fact I have seen discounts as high as 75% by booking a year ahead of time.

The advantage of booking so far in advance is that there is plenty of time to plan out things like excursions, travel arrangements, etc.

If you give too short a lead time to the cruise a lot of sights at the various stops could be missed, leave some time for planning what to do at the different stops.
